Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and pre-trekking preparation

The beginning of your Annapurna Sanctuary Trek starts on the arrival at TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport). Here, you are greeted by our EverNepal staff and transfer you to the standard hotel. On arrival at the hotel, you can take some rest and join the EverNepal trek briefing to know about the itinerary and other essential things related to the trek. Then, you can look around Kathmandu city. If your arrival time falls at night, the briefing is done the next day early morning. After that, you enjoy your welcome dinner arranged by us and head back to the room for the overnight stay.

Day 02: A full day guided tour and sightseeing in Kathmandu valley

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, you begin your sightseeing tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites situated in the Kathmandu Valley with our experienced guide. On this tour, you find the rich history, culture, and various beautiful architecture of Nepal. Below are some of the sites you explore throughout the day. 

Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple)

It is one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in Nepal, which is famous for its Buddha eyes, prayer flags, and panoramic views of Kathmandu. This stupa is located in the western direction from Central Kathmandu. 

Boudhanath Stupa

The Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest spherical stupas in the world and offers a peaceful atmosphere, colored prayer flags, praying wheels and several monasteries. It is perched on the eastern side of Kathmandu city. 

Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar is located in the heart of Lalitpur. It was once a royal palace of Malla kings. This Durbar Square has various temples and courtyards which have intricately carved structures which show Nepal's culture and art.

Pashupatinath Temple

It is the holiest Hindu temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is popular for its pagoda architecture and spiritual significance beside the Bagmati River. The ghats, shrines, and the rituals give you unique experiences of Nepal's religion and heritage.

Day 3: Fly or drive to Pokhara and full day sightseeing in Pokhara valley

You start your day with a hearty breakfast. After that, you leave for Pokhara either by air or by road transportation. In case you opt to go by road transportation, you travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara passing through Naubise, Malekhu, Kurintar, Mugling, and Damauili. Along the way, you are treated to stunning views of the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers, green hills, farming lands, and Manakamana Cable Car. But, if you prefer to travel by air, you fly to Pokhara enjoying the scenic beauty of beautiful landscape, charming villages, and majestic Himalayas, such as Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). You reach Pokhara after a few minutes, where you take some rest. Later, you have a sightseeing tour where you explore Phewa Lake, the World Peace Pagoda, Davis Falls, Sarangkot, the fascinating caves and various other places. In the evening, you return to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Drive to Hile (1:45 hrs, 1,360m/4,791ft) and Trek to Banthanti (2,210m/ 7,251 ft)

Your trekking journey begins from this day. Following a hearty breakfast, you have a scenic drive to Hile via Nayapul, Birethanti, Matathanti, Lamdawali, and Sudame before arriving at Hile (Hille). You cross the Modi Khola bridge on the way and register your Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit at the Birethanti checkpoint before making ascent towards Hile along the Bhurungdi Khola. On the way, you witness terraced fields, riverside views, waterfalls, streams, and the daily lifestyle of people. Upon arriving at Hille, you begin your trekking by crossing charming villages like Tikhedhunga and Ulleri, offering beautiful views of high suspension bridges, Ulleri stone stairs, waterfalls, rivers and mountains (Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre). After arriving at Banthanti, you eat a warm dinner before an overnight stay.

Day 5: Trek from Banthanti to Ghorepani (2,860 m/9,385 ft)

Following a delicious breakfast, you proceed on your journey. You ascend through the stone and dirt path, and shaded, steady uphill trails surrounded by thick oak and rhododendron trees. After that, you cross the minor water cascades and small wooden bridges along the damp parts of the forested hillside before arriving at Nagethanti. Here, you take a short rest and eat a warm lunch while witnessing beautiful surroundings. After that, you ascend through the thinning trees to reach Ghorepani. During trekking, you witness dense woodlands, freshwater streams, cascading waterfalls, and snow peaks (Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre). At Ghorepani, you spend a night.

Day 6: Hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m/10,525 ft) and trek to Tadapani (2,630 m/8, 630 ft)

You wake up early in the morning and perform a hike to Poon Hill. The trail heads towards the eastern boundary of Ghorepani village, where the designated stone pathway and checkpoint station for Poon Hill are located. Then, you start climbing the continuous, well-maintained stone staircases. After a few minutes, you arrive at the top of the pool hill, where you are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of a beautiful sunrise along with majestic mountains such as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Once you soak up the view, you return to your teahouse/lodge for a warm breakfast.

After having breakfast, you leave Ghorepani and head towards the east direction by following a steady, gentle climb through clear ridges and thick rhododendron and pine woodlands to arrive at Deurali Pass. From here, you descend through a damp, shaded forest that is filled with oak, bamboo, and large rhododendron trees. Moreover, you cross the small wooden bridges and descend until you arrive at a rest or lunch. Now, you make a final ascent through a misty forest path before reaching Tadapani. On the way, you witness red and pink rhododendron flowers, local wildlife, and high mountains. At Tadapani, you spend your night.

Day 7: Trek from Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170 m / 7,119 ft)

Following a hearty breakfast, you steeply descend through the stones and then trek through the quiet oak and rhododendron forests to arrive at small settlements like Chuile. From here, you continue your descent until you arrive at the valley floor at the Kimrong Khola (river). You need to cross this river through the large suspension bridge. After you cross the bridge, you ascend on stone steps through terraced farmlands and small local villages. Then, you begin your final ascend through the stone staircase that leads to the ridge-side village of Chhomrong. While trekking through these routes, you observe beautiful views of dense forest, Gurung settlements, and mountains (Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli). At this place, you stay overnight.

Day 8: Trek from Chhomrong (2,170 m / 7,119 ft) to Himalaya (2,890 m / 9,425 ft)

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you begin your trek by descending through the steep stone steps to Chhomrong Khola. You cross the Chhomrong Khola through the high suspension bridge. After that, you continue with a steady climb to Sinuwa. From here, the path goes through peaceful forests of Bamboo, rhododendron, and oak before reaching Bamboo village. By leaving the Bamboo village behind, you follow the roaring Modi Khola through a scenic gorge to arrive at Dovan. From here, you ascend towards the Himalaya. On the way, you witness stunning views of forests, waterfalls, streams, and mountains (Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli). Here, you spend your night.

Day 9: Trek from Himalaya (2,890 m / 9,425 ft) to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m/13,550 ft) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp

Today, you finally arrive at the Annapurna Base Camp through the famous Machhapuchhre Base Camp. After an early breakfast, you head down the Modi Khola in the narrow valley by ascending toward the village of Deurali. You can see how the scenery changes as you enter the beautiful Annapurna Sanctuary. The tree line disappears and is substituted by the rocky moraine field and a view of the peak of Fishtail (Machhapuchhre). As you trek further, you pass along the Modi Khola and under the impressive slope of Bagar ridge before reaching the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). Along the way, you get to see amazing scenery, including the view of Modi Khola Gorge, the alpine area, glaciers and moraines, as well as Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) Mountain. After a couple of hours, you reach the MBC (Machhapuchhre Base Camp) and see magnificent mountains.

After soaking in the views from MBC, you continue on the trail that ascends and crosses the open, flat glacial bowl that is situated above the tree line. As you trek further, you are offered beautiful views of prayer flags, glacial landscape and sweeping mountains such as Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli. After a few hours, you arrive at ABC (Annapurna Base Camp). Here, you spend your night.

Day 10: Trek from Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m / 13,550ft) to Bamboo (2,350m / 7,700ft)

From this day, your return journey begins. Upon soaking in the views at Annapurna Base Camp in the morning, you descend through the open glacial, rocky moraine trail towards Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). You continue your descent while following the glacial valley of the Modi Khola toward Deurali, passing through rocky moraine trails and narrow avalanche-prone sections. From here, the trail leads to Hinku Cave before descending into a lush forest canyon next to crashing waterfalls before reaching Dovan. Through Dovan, you descend via damp, shaded, and thick bamboo forest towards Bamboo village where you stay overnight.

Day 11: Trek from Bamboo (2,350m / 7,700ft) to Jhinu Danda (1,780m / 6,393ft) and nearby natural hot springs

After a hearty breakfast, you descend through lush forests of bamboo, rhododendron, and oak towards Sinuwa. Then, the trail leads down a long series of stone steps to the suspension bridge over the Chhomrong Khola. Once you cross the high suspension bridge, you make a steady climb to Chhomrong before following the lower trail that descends to the charming village of Jhinu Danda. After a few hours of trekking, you reach Jhinu Danda, where you stay overnight. You check-in your room in the teahouse and take some well-deserved rest. Later on, you go on a walk to the natural hot springs near the Modi Khola. As you trek towards hot springs, you witness rushing rivers, traditional Gurung settlements, dense forests and majestic peaks of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).

Day 12: Trek from Jhinu Danda (1,780m / 6,393ft) to Siwa/Ghandrunk Phedi (1,150m / 3,770ft), drive to Pokhara (820m) via Nayapul (1050m)

Following a leisurely breakfast, you start your last trekking day by descending from the foothills of the Annapurna Conservation Area. The trail goes through terraced fields, waterfalls, suspension bridges, and traditional Gurung/Magar villages. Moreover, you continue to trek along the Modi Khola Valley and then cross the Komrong Khola, New Bridge (Naya Bridge), and Kyum village before arriving at Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi. This is the place where you end your trekking journey. 

From Siwa, you cross several places such as Kimche, Nayapul, Birethanti, Lumle, Naudanda, and Hemja before arriving at Pokhara via private vehicle. On the way, you witness Modi Khola River, green forest, and rural lifestyle. At Pokhara, you can explore some attractions that you have not visited earlier and spend the night.

Today, you go back to Kathmandu. Following a leisurely breakfast, you have two choices - either returning to Kathmandu via flight or via road transportation. If you prefer to travel by flight, our representatives help you complete all the boarding formalities and assist you in taking the flight. If you prefer travelling by private vehicle, you follow the Prithvi Highway route. You can also witness the Trishuli, Marsyangdi and Seti Rivers, the Manakamana Cable Car, Mugling Bazaar, and green fields on the way. After a few hours, you arrive at Kathmandu, where you take a rest, explore nearby streets and stay overnight.

Day 14: Final Departure

How difficult is the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek?

The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is considered a moderate trek. This trek consists of many days spent trekking through stone steps, forest paths, and high altitude mountainous terrain. With all the required preparations and at an adequate pace along with breaks in between, most physically fit trekkers can easily finish this trekking journey.

Do I need any prior trekking experience?

Having prior trekking experience is good but it is not mandatory. It is possible for a beginner trekker to join the trekking trip if he is physically fit and well-prepared under the guidance of a proper guide. Our team provides the necessary guidance and support throughout the trek to help you complete the journey.

Is altitude sickness a concern?

Yes, altitude sickness is the main concern on this trek, as you need to trek to altitudes of more than 4,000 m altitude which can be very risky. Proper acclimatization, hydration, maintaining a proper pace, and notifying your guide about any symptoms are a few ways through which you can minimize the chances of risk and ensure a safe trekking experience.

What type of accommodation is available during the trek?

You have access to comfortable and modest teahouses and lodges throughout your trekking journey. The room facilities include twin sharing rooms with basic facilities and a small dining hall.

What kind of meals are served during the trek?

In most of the tea houses and lodges, you can find traditional Nepali dal bhat, Tibetan breads, and simple Western dishes. For breakfast, you receive boiled eggs, breads, grains and pancakes. During lunch and dinner, you get dal bhat (lentils and rice), potatoes, noodles and pasta. 

Is drinking water available along the trail?

Yes, drinking water is available along the Annapurna Sanctuary trail. At lower altitudes, you can buy bottled water, while at higher altitudes, you need to refill water from local taps and streams and must use water purification tablets to drink.
