A. Swayambhunath Stupa/Monkey Temple (World Heritage Site):

Swayambhunath is located on a hill that overlooks the valley of Kathmandu. It is one of the earliest religious monuments in Nepal. The stupa has prayer flags and prayer wheels with vibrant colored shrines. The Monkey Temple is another name for it, due to all the monkeys in the area. You can see the valley and the city from the top of the hill.

B. Kathmandu Durbar Square

This historical monument is situated right in the center of Kathmandu. This palace used to be the abode of the kings of Nepal. The Kathmandu Durbar Square houses many temples and courtyards, which speak volumes about the Newari style of architecture.

The temple complex is located on the banks of the Bagmati River and features pagoda-style architecture, many shrines, as well as sacred cremation ghats. Visitors can still observe daily life and spiritual activities around the temple complex, even though non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the main temple.

D. Boudhanath, a World Heritage Site

Boudhanath has one of the most impressive and important Buddhist stupas. The massive dome was built in the 5th Century and is crowned with the eyes of Buddha. It symbolizes both wisdom and knowledge. It is surrounded by prayer wheels and monasteries, and thus it has become a favored spot for pilgrims and monks who come to conduct their rituals or just spend some time there.
